Residential Removal - The Process

We have outlined the step-by-step process in a non-technical manner for ease of understanding. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • Prior to Waterline removing any underground storage tank, any decorative work will be carefully removed away from the tank area (i.e. pavers, patio stones, decking, etcetera).

  • Any soil that is usable is set aside for reuse.

  • Any remaining liquids or sludges are removed from the tank and piping system and are disposed of as per M.O.E. & E.

  • Extreme care is utilized when excavating and removing the underground storage tank so that there is no spillage. Tanks are emptied with a vacuum truck to ensure there is zero liquid or sludge in the tank prior to removal.

  • A Hydrogeologist will be on-site to take soil samples, which are forwarded to an independent laboratory for analyses. Typically, results are known within 24-48 hours and a fully detailed signed report will be provided to the owner.

  • The excavation of the tank is completed with a backhoe or excavator; in situations where it is not possible to use such a method, hand excavation may be required. The tank is then removed to a registered recycler.

  • All other equipment used in conjunction with the underground storage system is also removed (pumps, wiring, piping, etc.).

  • The site is then backfilled and restored to its pre-excavation status.

  • Why must I register my underground tank and whom do I contact to register it?

You must register your underground tank as the first step to ensuring your underground fuel system is safe. You can register your underground fuel tank with the T.S.S.A. at 1-877-682-8772.

A Mississauga client is a cleaner of the wash fluids from liquid container transports. By installing two 95,400 litre double wall vertical storage tanks, their capacity grew to market demands. The installation was made possible due to the vertical design and the monitored double wall construction eliminating the large area traditionally required for dyking. This system was designed and installed by Waterline Environmental.
